Cover Your Bases: Foundation
So as many as of you know, I have a makeup obsession. Some people collect rocks, I collect makeup. As someone who has a lot of experience with makeup and their techniques I'm gonna dumb it down to start with, and cover the basics first. I find that no make up look is complete without a flawless face, so for me foundation is a must.
I've tried A LOT of foundations and have narrowed it down to a few that I would recommend for others starting from high to low coverage, I will also try to include both drug store and high end options. I used to be more combination/ dry but have recently been more combination/ oily so I will note which worked best for me for depending on how my skin is. A mistake people often make when picking out foundation is choosing the wrong color because they don't know what undertone they are. Generally the options will be cool, warm, neutral and olive undertones or sometimes just rose, yellow or neutral undertones (depends on the brand of foundation).
Full coverage foundations: My favorite full coverage foundation is the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation. It's not cakey and is long-wearing and gives you a nice satin finish perfect for any skin type.
My go to drug store foundation for a full coverage look is the L'oreal True Match foundation. The great thing about this foundation is it comes in many shades, which is sometimes hard when picking a drug store foundation. It has a pretty satin to matte finish but may look cakey if you use a heavy hand, apply it with a Beauty Blender for the best finish.
Medium coverage foundations: Okay so this foundation is definitely one of my holy grail products. It also might be one you haven't heard about before unless you're a make up junkie like I am. It's the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation and it's amazing. It's luminous and dewy and looks so fresh. It is super light weight and for me has a medium coverage. It is a bit pricey but if you ever decide to splurge on a foundation, choose this one.
A great drug store medium to full coverage foundation is the L'oreal Infallible Pro-Matte 24 Hour foundation. I LOVE this foundation, and for the price it's great. It really does keep you matte and has a great finish. Can be made to look dewy depending on use of powder/ setting spray used over it. The great thing about drug store foundations is you can find them at almost any store from target, Walmart, Wallgreens and Ulta.
Light coverage foundations: My all time favorite foundation that has a very natural look that is weightless, but still covers those blemishes is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. Regardless of skin type, this foundation is awesome. I've gone back to this again and again. It looks natural but gives you the coverage you need, you can apply it heavier (without it getting cakey) or lighter (with a beauty blender) depending on the coverage you want.
A good alternative to the Urban Decay foundation is the Neutrogena Skin Liquid Makeup. It does oxidize so be careful with that, but otherwise has a nice light coverage and great finish.
