Exciting News: I'm Going Vegan
Over the years I have struggled with my health, as I know many people of all ages do as well. During the past 6 months I have been trying to be healthier by eliminating fried foods, fast food, and junk food. I try to steer more towards fruits, veggies, lean meats and other low calorie products. I wasn't focusing on nutritional value but more so not eating too many calories, my restrictions would lead me to binge eating and I would give up. I've been trying to make a lifestyle change and recently have been hearing about things my friends have been doing. This is how I stumbled upon veganism. I attempted to be vegan 4 years ago but it didn't last because I jumped into it without making slow life changes. The transition was too drastic and I didn't know enough about it and how to make it work.
I want to start my journey to being a vegan for multiple reasons. The first reason is my health. I want to be more aware of what I put into my body and live a long and healthy life. The meat we consume has so many hormones and honestly disgusting products in them. The next reason is the animals. I've always been a huge animal lover but I would go and consumed meat and animal products. I always heard about animals being mistreated but would ignore it and continue eating a cheeseburger. After doing research, watching documentaries and hearing other people's stories I realized how brutal these mass producing agricultural companies and farms are to animals. The third reason is the environment, these huge agricultural companies are a large component to fossil fuels such as nitrous oxide being released into the environment contributing to climate change. I realize that so many people (including myself) have stayed ignorant to these things because we don't want to change or do anything about it. I'm not trying to preach to anyone or saying you need to be vegan but if it's something that interests you then look into it and we can go on this journey together!
In order to move towards being a vegan I am first going to become a vegetarian. I have only ever eaten chicken, beef and turkey so giving up that is my first step. I'm lactose intolerant so giving up milk isn't an issue. For now I will still be eating products that were made with milk or egg but I want to cut down. My parents own land and actually have chickens that roam cage free so I've always consumed my eggs from my back yard, knowing they were antibiotic and hormone free. This was nice because I know exactly how the chickens were raised and fed, but I'm going to slowly cut down on my consumption of eggs and milk products. I want to hold myself to a higher standard of living and know that my lifestyle changes have made and will make a difference in my body and the world. My goal is that by the end of 2016 I am living a clean, healthy, vegan lifestyle.
